N-Order - simple and effective network order system for print production and other subcontracting buyers
This software is nearing completion, and will be available shortly. We have been using it ourselves for a while, and it works extremely well, but it needs a bit of tidying up.
Here is how it works:
| 1)
A VB interface collects
the information for the
actual order (I will
hopefully convert this to
web-based ASP for non-PC
users). The last order
number and job number used
are retained so that they
are inserted automatically
when the program is
opened. The program asks
for an expenditure code
and 'ordered by' initials,
then supplier and order
details.
2) When 'Process Order' is clicked, the full order details are written to a text file and saved, and also copied to your clipboard, so that they can be immediately pasted into an email or fax message (see below).
3) Short details are also captured to a simple database file, which can be imported into Excel or other spreadsheets as comma-delineated data (see below).
4) The Excel file can then be searched by supplier, date, amount etc. for maximum order control flexibility. I hope to provide an Excel file with ready-written Macros for this purpose. 5) Using the 'add toolbar' facility in Win XP, you can add a link to your taskbar, which will take you straight to the directory where the full orders are stored - the combination of searching by criteria in Excel and then going straight to the file from your taskbar is generally much faster than doing the same action in a complete database program (eg. Access) (see below).
If you'd like more information about this fantastic program when it becomes available, let me know using this link, and put the word 'N-order' in the body of the email. I guarantee not to spam you.
